A family winter journey through Germany

Germany Winter Journey

The Journey Begins

This winter, we travelled to Austria, drawn by its Alpine landscapes, timeless cities, and the quiet magic of the season. Along the way, we also crossed briefly into Slovakia before ending our trip in Munich. But Austria stayed with us the most, not for how much we saw, but for how it made us feel.

Day 1: Arrival in Frankfurt

We left home before sunrise, heading to Changi Airport with that familiar mix of excitement and sleepiness.

The 3:15am flight carried us out of warm Singapore and into winter’s stretch. After a short transit in Doha, we were back in the air, between time zones, easing into travel mode. By then, our little one was fast asleep, curled up as the cabin lights dimmed.

Frankfurt welcomed us with calm: cool air, quiet streets, and a soft winter sky. Our transfer was waiting, and the drive into the city felt still, bare trees, muted colours, everything settling into winter rhythm.

We checked into our hotel with no rush, letting the winter journey begin.

Our suite was spacious and warm, with a small balcony that quickly became our favourite corner.

In the quiet of the late afternoon, we stood there for a while, looking out at unfamiliar buildings and listening to a city we had just arrived in.

After a long journey, it was exactly what we needed. Not to explore, not to rush, just to pause, breathe, and slowly ease into the rhythm of Austria.

Our first quiet moment in Vienna.
