A family winter journey through Germany— snowy castles & scenic cities

Germany Winter Journey

The Journey Begins

Germany in winter had been on our list for a while.

This was our two-week family journey through Frankfurt, the Rhine Valley, and Bavaria. No packed checklist, just a simple plan: travel well, take it in, and enjoy it together.

Day 1: Arrival in Frankfurt

We left home before sunrise, heading to Changi Airport with that familiar mix of excitement and sleepiness.

The 3:15am flight carried us out of warm Singapore and into winter’s stretch. After a short transit in Doha, we were back in the air, between time zones, easing into travel mode. By then, our little one was fast asleep, curled up as the cabin lights dimmed.

Frankfurt welcomed us with calm: cool air, quiet streets, and a soft winter sky. Our transfer was waiting, and the drive into the city felt still, everything settling into winter rhythm.

We checked into our hotel with no rush just our first evening in Frankfurt, letting the winter journey begin.

Day 14 – Flight Back Home (Dec 22)

Our last morning in Munich arrived quietly. We packed our suitcases slowly, taking one last look around our little boarding house, the place that had felt like home over the past few days. By noon, we checked out and made our way to the airport, the city gradually fading behind us as we looked back on everything we had experienced, from Frankfurt and Heidelberg to Rothenburg, Zugspitze, and the winter charm of Munich.

At the airport, everything moved smoothly as we checked in for our flight home. There was a familiar mix of emotions, grateful for the journey, happy for the time we shared, and a little sad that it had come to an end. As we boarded our flight back to Singapore, hearts felt full, suitcases a little heavier with chocolates and souvenirs, and minds already holding onto the memories we knew would stay with us for a long time.
