Untersberg Mountain

Heading to the Mountains

Day 9 took us up into the mountains — a day trip to Untersberg, just outside Salzburg.

We started early, taking public transport from the city. The journey was easy and relaxed, with the views slowly changing from streets to open landscapes and alpine scenery.

Up the Cable Car

At the base, we took the cable car up.

Within minutes, everything changed — snow under our feet, clear blue skies above, and mountain views stretching far into the distance. The air felt fresh and clean, and it was quiet in a way that made you slow down without thinking.

Time in the Snow

We spent most of the time just walking around and taking it in.

There was space to move, to laugh, and even to fall into the snow and get back up smiling. It wasn’t about doing much — just enjoying being there.

Lunch with a View

We stayed for lunch at the mountaintop restaurant.

Simple food, warm and comforting, and surprisingly reasonable for a place with such incredible views. We sat a little longer than planned, just enjoying the moment.

Heading Back Down

By the time we headed back down, we were tired but happy.

It wasn’t a rushed day — just mountains, snow, sunlight, and time to enjoy it properly.

A Simple Mountain Day

Some days don’t need a full plan.

This was one of them — quiet, scenic, and exactly what we needed.

Good to Know Before You Go

  • Even the public transport ride to Untersberg is scenic. As you leave Salzburg, the views slowly open up — fields, mountains, and quiet surroundings that already feel like a break from the city.
  • The Untersberg cable car takes about 8–10 minutes to reach the top. It’s smooth, quick, and the views start almost immediately as you go higher.
  • The snow can get quite deep in some areas — in parts, it can reach close to knee level. Walking along the tracks can be slippery and uneven, so proper waterproof boots with good grip really make a difference.
  • There’s a restaurant at the top, and the food is simple but good. Prices are quite reasonable too, especially considering the location and views.
