A Scenic Start on the Semmering Railway
We started the day with one of the most scenic train rides in Austria — the Semmering Railway.
As the train moved through tunnels, forests, and rolling hills, the views kept changing along the way. It didn’t feel like just a transfer between cities. The journey itself was part of the experience, and honestly, one of the highlights of the day.
If you enjoy train travel, this route is worth slowing down for.
Arriving in Graz
By late morning, we arrived in Graz, a city that immediately felt quieter and more relaxed compared to Vienna.
The pace here was slower. Less crowded, less rushed. It felt like a place where you don’t need a strict plan — just walk and see where it takes you.
Lunch at Murinsel
For lunch, we stopped at Murinsel, a unique floating structure in the middle of the Mur River.
Sitting there, surrounded by flowing water and modern design, the whole experience felt simple and unhurried. It wasn’t about the food alone — it was the setting that made it memorable.
It was one of those small moments where you pause, sit a little longer, and just enjoy being there.
Walking Through the City
After lunch, we continued exploring on foot, following the river and wandering through the old town.
Graz feels very walkable. The streets are easy to navigate, and there’s a nice mix of historic buildings and everyday life happening around you. It didn’t feel overwhelming, even with a child.
Climbing Up to Uhrturm
Later in the afternoon, we made our way up to Graz’s most well-known landmark — the Uhrturm.
The walk up was steady but manageable, and we took it at our own pace. Along the way, there were small paths and viewpoints that made the climb feel less like effort and more like part of the experience.
At the top, the view opened up across the whole city — red rooftops, winding streets, and soft winter light stretching into the distance.
It was quiet, not crowded, and the kind of view that makes you stop talking for a moment.
A Simple and Good Day
As the afternoon moved into evening, we made our way back to Vienna.
It wasn’t a packed day, and that’s what made it special. No rushing, no trying to see everything.
Just a scenic journey, a relaxed city, and time to enjoy it properly.
