Jungfraujoch: Top of Europe

A Grey Morning

We started the day with breakfast at the hotel, knowing this would be one of the highlights of the trip. The weather wasn’t perfect grey skies and light rain, but we decided to go ahead anyway. Sometimes, you just have to trust the journey.

Through the Bernese Oberland

The coach ride took us through the Bernese Oberland, where the landscape slowly opened up into wide valleys and quiet villages. Even under the cloudy sky, the scenery felt calm and beautiful in its own way.

We stopped briefly at Interlaken, a small town nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. It had that postcard feel, even in the rain, quiet streets, mountain views hidden behind clouds, and just a gentle pace before the real climb began.

The Climb to Jungfraujoch

From Grindelwald, we boarded the cogwheel train that would take us up to Jungfraujoch.

As the train climbed higher, the views began to change. The famous peaks, Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau appeared and disappeared behind clouds, sometimes hidden, sometimes revealing just enough to remind us how close we were.

It felt slow, steady, and quietly exciting.

At the Top – A World of Ice and Snow

At 3,500 metres above sea level, Jungfraujoch felt like another world.

Snow stretched in every direction, blending into the sky. The air was crisp, the wind sharp, and everything felt vast and still at the same time.

We stepped out onto the Sphinx Observation Terrace, where the view, when the clouds allowed, opened up to the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in Europe. It wasn’t perfectly clear, but somehow that made it feel even more real.

Inside the Ice

One of the most memorable parts was walking through the Ice Palace, tunnels carved deep inside the glacier.

Everything around us was ice, floors, walls, sculptures, glowing softly under the lights. It felt quiet, almost surreal, like stepping into a frozen world hidden beneath the mountains. We slowed down here, taking it in, careful with each step, and just enjoying the moment.

Small Moments Along the Way

Between the sights and the stops, it was these little moments that made the day feel complete, watching my girl play in the snow, laugh, and just enjoy the moment without thinking about anything else.

The Journey Back Down

As we made our way down, the landscape shifted again snow slowly giving way to valleys and villages.

We passed through places like Wengen and Lauterbrunnen, quiet and peaceful, before returning to where the day had begun.

It wasn’t a perfect weather day, but it didn’t need to be. Jungfraujoch wasn’t just about clear views, it was about the experience. The journey up, the feeling of standing in the snow, the quiet touch of the Ice Palace, and the pure joy of my girl playing in the snow.

These are the moments that made the trip truly unforgettable.
