A Quick Escape to Montigo Resort, Batam
Quiet escapes, ocean sunsets, and moments that stayed with us.
Every year, we try to make two or three short trips to nearby islands or neighbouring countries before our longer holiday in December. These little escapes help us pause, recharge, and step away from the busy rhythm of Singapore life.
In June 2023, we decided to take one of those short breaks. From 17–20 June, we visited Montigo Resort in Batam, a place surprisingly close to Singapore, yet far enough to feel like another world.
The journey was simple and easy. A 45-minute ferry ride from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, followed by about 20 minutes of complimentary shuttle service from Nongsapura Ferry Terminal, brought us straight to the resort.
Montigo Resort is beautifully built along a hillside overlooking the sea, with rows of modern white villas cascading down toward the water. The view alone already made the trip worthwhile.
Our Villa: A Private Little Sanctuary
We stayed in a One-Bedroom Deluxe Villa, and it immediately felt like our own little sanctuary.
One thing we always look for when choosing a staycation is a private swimming pool, and this villa delivered perfectly. For our daughter, it was pure magic.
Morning swims. Afternoon splashes. Evening dips while watching the sunset. Simple moments like these became the highlight of the trip.
The villa itself was clean, spacious, and well maintained. Large windows opened toward the sea, letting in natural light and gentle ocean breezes.
Slow Mornings and Seaside Views
Breakfast was enjoyable too, offering both local dishes and Western options. We usually had a heavy, late breakfast, leaving no room for lunch until after a refreshing swim in our private pool while enjoying the gentle sea breeze.
In the late afternoon, we headed out for late lunch and later treated ourselves to the spa experience as a family. It was deeply relaxing.
As evening approached, the sky slowly transformed. The sun sinking into the sea created a quiet kind of beauty that left us in awe , even our usually energetic daughter paused to watch.
What makes Montigo Resort standout is how easy it is to reach. In just over an hour of travel from Singapore, we found ourselves surrounded by sea views, quiet villas, slow sunsets, and a private pool we could dip into anytime we wished.
It was a short trip, but it gave us something precious, a chance to recharge, reconnect, and breathe a little deeper.
And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.
